Media gatekeepers and a picture

I just thought I'd share my views after seeing the headlines on Yahoo!: "New Abu Gharaib abuse photos anger Arabs".

What is the media coming to these days?! Senseless idiocy.
Case #1: Denmark & the insulting caricatures of prophet Muhamad (sp?)
Case #2: Australia & Abu Gharaib abuse photos

I've just realised that the media industry can be quite an ugly one. I realised too LATE. For the Australian case, I'm going to assume they wanted to be the first to break the news, sell more papers, whatever they have, broadcast rights, etc.

I mean, yeah. Ok, so we know that abuse may be going on still. But publishing photos like that will cause the Arabs to get angry, and in effect, instability will result. Too many people making the same mistakes. Similar to the Denmark case. Print the cartoons, anger muslims, BIG reaction. Its not good. I maintain that everything can be solved in a peaceful manner. But its really up to the people to make the choices.

"Each of us makes choices, and how it affects us depends on the choice we make."

I like this, uh, quote. We are the gatekeepers. Firstly, from the media stand point. You've heard the phrase put yourselves in the other's shoes so often. Why don't you do it before doing something? How would the muslims have felt? Things like this should have been thought of before hand. Likewise for the Aussie media. How would the Iraqis feel?

For the muslims who are protesting violently, sure, ya get yer point across. BUT, does it bring more harm or peace? Ya want yer rights, sure. I'm sure at least some people in the world are willing to give it to ya. But, like I said, peaceful manner. Maybe ya think ya won't get heard if its not violent and causes destruction. Maybe not. But why not give it a try. To me, Indonesia has adopted a rather sensible way to protest peacefully. Stop trading and purchasing goods. I mean, it shows the country's overall stand without doing so violently and causing harm and destruction. When one part of the world suffers, the entire globe does.

Bottom line? 1) Think before doing things media people. 2) There's a peaceful way to do things and a destructive way to do things. Choose which you want.

Finally, time for a photo. Photo with Alvin, Joannah and Antonius. Thanks Antonius for yer help in the GEM. Really appreciate it.
