Reality Bites (mini version)
Currently showing on CBS in USA is Pirate Master a.k.a. Sinking Pirate Ship Show (SPSS anyone?). SPSS is a statistics software. Anyway, premise is that these pirates have to participate in challenges to hunt for treasure that the crew of the legendary Captain Henry Steele hid around Dominica. Henry Steele locked the keys to all the treasure chests with associated maps in a treasure chest called the "Chest of Zanzibar". Its called that cause it was bought in Zanzibar. Anyway, the chest has 13 compartments so each compartment held the map to the next treasure chest. Found one, you got the map to the next one and so on and so forth.
Each week, these pirates have to split into two crews, the red crew or the black crew and oppose each other to be the successful team to bring in the loot. A captain is chosen from the winning team who gains 50% of the treasure found and two officers are chosen by the captain who gain 25% of the haul. The remainder is split among the remaining team members. What the captain and his/her officers do with their share is up to them. The captain and officers them move out of the crew quarters and into the captain's cabin. And its up to the captain how the ship is run. Of course, if you take the aristocratic means you'll have a lot of unhappy people which then means they can mutiny you. But anyway, the captain and officers then decide which pirate earns a black spot. The three pirates then
The remaining pirates (minus the captain, officers and three black-spotted pirates) vote for someone to be set adrift. The pirate with the highest number of votes is then cast off. Here, the pirates have the power to cut someone adrift or unamiously mutiny against the captain in which case the captain is set adrift instead.
Somehow, the show has fallen flat within the first three episodes as the premise has quickly tired. JD is pretty lucky given his first time as captain he already assumed an aristocratic style of leadership. But in the end, SPSS is a good way to describe Pirate Master. And this is the show that's supposed to take over Survivor. Forget it really, reality tv is dying anyway.
The Amazing Race Asia is coming back for a second season. Applications were open to include Japanese this time round. Hopefully this race they have more teams and continue with the excellent casting choices from the previous season. Production is supposed to take place in either June or July and the new season to debut in the fourth quarter of 2007! I can hardly wait, hah. Season 1 was superb, so here's to hoping that season 2 will be well worth the wait since TAR 12 isn't coming out till next year.
Survivor: China kicks off filming on Monday for 39 days at Zhelin lake in Jiangxi, China. It remains to be seen whether this will be a highly gimmicky season of Survivor.
Project Runway Malaysia is set to debut in August this year. Applications were due in April or May. Here's to hoping I can watch the show.
Not reality TV, but its one of my favourite shows. Heroes season 2, Generations, is supposed to come in September. Since we're on drama now, Lost season 3 is here (like finally! I've forgotten what happened in seasons 1 and 2 already, Channel 5...)...
